Systemic psychotherapy focuses on identifying communication and interaction patterns within an individual's relationships with their significant others.It also aims to highlight one's stories about themselves and creates opportunities to be aware of the ones which create anguish and pain.It attempts making meaning of them in regards to their their family, ethnicity, age, class, sexual preference, race, etc. Systemic thinking also relates to the way we perceive the world as a consequence of our past and present experiences.More often than not ,the emotional dimension of these experiences are not processed by neither the individual nor the family members and can cause some distress and misunderstandings.
Change is achieved through creating a space where new ways of thinking can emerge and where people can feel safe enough to hear it. This way of working tries to stay clear of blame and instead helps people to hear different perspectives.
