It is usually a stressful experience to make the first contact with the psychotherapist once you have established that you need help to address the emotional difficulties that you have as an individual, as a partner in a couple relationship or as a family member. This is often because you are expected to share your inner world with a stranger whom you have not met before. Consequently, it can feel difficult to pick up the phone and make the first call.
To facilitate the process, I always encourage my clients to call me and have an initial free consultation online to ask whatever questions and concerns they might have and then make a more informed decision about whether to start therapy or not.
After the decision to start therapy is taken, we will have an open conversation about whether the therapy will be short or long term and how often we will meet. This timeline can change during the course of therapydepending on the individual or family's needs.
